Here are some of my observations, notes and opinions from Tennessee football spring practice #10 (Thursday, April 3, 2014). The media was allowed to see 7 periods at the start practice.

Practice 10
Jalen Hurd’s sudden change of direction is impressive. He is not only physical but he can bend like a smaller back and change direction while doing so. He looks so different from the other backs.

I got a very close look at true freshman right tackle Coleman Thomas. He looks good physically. He doesn’t have the flab and gut that you often see in lineman. He’s in excellent shape. He has aggressiveness and has done a good job of holding down a difficult position to learn as a true freshman. He really hasn’t been challenged for that starting spot he has so far.

Joshua Dobbs’ delivery is slower than that of Riley Ferguson. Getting rid of the football is very important. Ferguson has the strongest arm. At times he’s the most accurate but at other times he misses on throws. Justin Worley has been up and down in accuracy in practice. 

Marlin Lane had a test and meeting with a professor, so he was not at practice per Butch Jones.

Butch Jones switched jersey colors on the team. The defense lost the orange and donned white instead. 

Butch Jones put Jason Carr on the clock and mentioned the possibility of moving the defensive lineman to the offensive line.

Dylan Weisman continues to see work as the #2 center.
