The pandemic causing another pause to Real ID licenses but soon those will be required. You will need a Real ID license to access certain Federal buildings, to enter nuclear facilities and to board commercial flights within the United States, beginning May 3rd of next year.
Many people may have forgotten all about the REAL ID Act of 2005.
It establishes minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting driver licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards. It was set to take effect in Tennessee before the pandemic hit.
You do NOT need a REAL ID to Drive, Vote, Access hospitals, Visit the post office or Apply for or receive federal benefits such as social security or veterans’ benefits.
