Seymour, TN (WOKI) One person is dead following a house fire early Monday morning in Seymour.

Seymour Volunteer Fire Department officials report that firefighters arrived at the house off Chapman Highway near Floyd’s Market around 4:04 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke. They say crews made an interior attack to put out the flames but that the absence of hydrants in the area made fighting the blaze difficult.

Crews found one victim dead inside the home. The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the fire.

The victim’s identity and cause of death have not yet been released.

Waldens Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Sevier County Fire and Rescue also helped in putting out the blaze.
