Knoxville Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-40 West.

It happened yesterday (Thursday) afternoon near West Hills. Police say a Nissan SUV that was traveling eastbound on I-40 lost a tire which went over the divider wall and struck another Nissan SUV going west and that tire went through the windshield and struck the driver.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No injuries were reported in the SUV that lost the tire.
