School Increases Security after Bomb Threat Towards Cumberland Co. Schools, Teen Arrested

Crossville, TN (WOKI) UPDATE 1/26/24: A Virginia teen is arrested Friday in connection to a bomb threat made against Cumberland County Schools Thursday night on social media.

Officials with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office say the 16-year-old boy had previous ties to one of the schools. He was arrested Friday in Herndon, Virginia and now faces multiple charges including threats of mass violence, filing a false report and criminal impersonation.

Despite multiple agencies working together to determine that the threat was not credible, security in Cumberland County schools was beefed up Friday out of an abundance of caution for students and staff.

ORIGINAL STORY: Students should expect to see more security at Cumberland County Schools today after a bomb threat is made.

Officials with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office say they were made aware of a bomb threat made on Facebook and are working with their Threat Assessment Task Force.

The online threats were made by an out-of-state juvenile pretending to be a current student last (Thursday) night.

Officials say even though it is deemed not a credible threat, building principal’s and school resource officers offering extra security measures because safety is their number 1 priority.
