Knoxville, TN (WOKI) Two hikers are seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

National Park Service officials say rangers reportedly responded to two hikers who fell from Cataract Falls.

According to the Park Service, both hikers were taken by helicopter from the Sugarlands Visitor Center to a hospital.

NPS officials are reminding visitors to “stay on the trail, not climb rocks near waterfalls, and use extreme caution when walking along river and creekbanks.”

Gatlinburg Fire and Rescue helped in the response.
