Maryville Man Convicted of Plotting to Kill FBI Employees While Awaiting January 6th Trial

A Maryville man could face life in prison after being convicted of plotting to murder FBI employees in Knoxville.

35 year-old Edward Kelley was convicted yesterday (Wednesday). According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Kelley was awaiting trial for participating in the Janurary 6th 2021 Capitol breach when he put together a plan to attack the Knoxville FBI office.

The DOJ said Kelley put together a kill list of FBI agents and others who had investigated him in connection to January 6th. Also, Kelley had teamed up with another person who testified at Kelley’s trial.

Authorities say Kelley had planned to use car bombs and drones to attack the office. Recordings captured Kelley telling coconspirators to “start it” if he was arrested and “take their office”. Kelley will face sentencing on May 7, 2025.
