City Grants Deadline Extension for Knoxville College to Address Building in Disrepair

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The City of Knoxville Wednesday extends the deadline for Knoxville College to repair or close off the McKee Administration Building, which the city says is in serious disrepair.

Knoxville College, East Tennessee’s only historically Black college or university, has been working to regain accreditation and repair much of its main campus since losing its accredited status in 1997.

Following an inspection on February 26, the city initially set a March 12 deadline for the school to close off public access to the building or fix 22 issues.

City officials Wednesday granted a 30-day extension request from the college to place a more permanent barrier on the building on the condition that Knoxville College put more immediate steps in place to temporarily stop access to the building.
