Jayden Nunn scored 19 points and went 5 of 8 on 3-pointers as No. 12 Baylor rolled to a 104-67 win against visiting Sam Houston on Tuesday night in Waco, Texas.
Norchad Omier and V.J. Edgecomb finished with double-doubles for Baylor. Omier had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Edgecomb collected 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. The Bears (2-1) took advantage of their size and length advantage to rack up 52 points in the paint to 24 for the Bearkats (1-2). Seven players scored in double figures for Baylor.
Both teams played up-tempo, but Baylor shot 58.6 percent from the field, connected on 14-of-32 from long range and had 24 fast-break points.
Nine players saw court time for the Bearkats, who played without starters Cameron Huefner and Damon Nicholas Jr.
Lamar Wilkerson led Sam Houston with 19 points. The senior guard was a game-time decision as he battled the flu and scored 17 of his points in the first half.
Josiah Hammons scored 14 points and Dorian Finister added 13 points for the Bearkats.
Baylor took its first 20-point lead when Jeremy Roach (12 points, eight assists) set up Omier’s three-point play for a 57-37 cushion early in the second half.
The Bears twice led by 18 points in the first half, the second coming after Roach nailed a 3-pointer. Finister’s trey Sam Houston’s next possession cut the Baylor lead to 39-24.
Roach then took an outlet pass, pushed the pace in transition, and found Omier for an alley oop and a 41-24 lead.
Nunn hit three treys in the first half on the way to 11 points. The senior guard has now scored 999 points over four seasons, two with VCU and two with Baylor.
Robert Wright (10 points, six assists) ended the first half with an up-and-under layup as the Bears extended their lead to 54-37 lead.
Nunn’s final trey of the night came with 11:07 left in the game and gave the Bears a 76-45 bulge.
