TVA Asking East Tennesseans to Conserve Power Usage During Increased Demand

Tennessee Valley Authority is asking East Tennesseans to conserve power usage due to an increase in demand.

TVA officials told KUB and other power companies across East Tennessee that increased conservation efforts are necessary to extend the available power supply and avoid service interruptions.

TVA officials say this is a precautionary measure.

KUB asked its customers to take the following measures to help reduce energy usage around the house:

  • Lower your thermostat as safely and comfortably as possible.
  • Postpone using large electrical appliances such as dishwashers, dryers and cooking equipment. If you do need to use do so during the warmest part of the day when electricity demand is lower.
  • Businesses should minimize lighting and turn off all office equipment that is not in use or necessary.
  • Eliminate all non-essential use of electricity, such as decorative indoor and outdoor lighting used for hallways, walkways and home patios.

This comes amid three of TVA’s nuclear reactors being offline due to electric issue which says TVA says they were still able to meet an all-time peak demand on January 22nd.
